MEXICAN LEAGUE PLAYOFFS: August 6, 2010

LMB SOUTH GAME FIVE SUSPENDED BY RAIN

The fifth game of the Mexican League’s Hidalgo Zone final in Oaxaca was suspended by rain Friday night with the host Guerreros and Puebla knotted up 2-2 in the middle of the fourth inning at Oaxaca’s Estadio Eduardo Vasconcelos.

Oaxaca went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first when Alejandro Gonzalez scored from third on a Juan Carlos Canizalez groundout and Christian Quintero followed with a single that scored Eloy Gutierrez. Puebla came back with two of their own in the top of the second on a Valentin Gamez RBI single that brought in Cesar Tapia and an Ivan Cervantes double that scored Miguel Torrero from second base. Oaxaca starter Rolando Valdez and his Puebla counterpart, Lorenzo Barcelo, traded shutout innings until the cloudburst made play impossible after Puebla’s Luis Suarez flied out to center to end the top of the fourth.

Game Five is scheduled to resume Saturday at 1:00PM local time in Oaxaca. Puebla leads the series, 3-games-to-1, with the LMB South winner taking on the winner of the Monterrey-Saltillo series in the North in the Bicentennial Series for the Liga pennant, with Game One currently scheduled to take place August 10 at the home park of the southern division champion.
