MEXICAN LEAGUE PLAYOFFS: August 11, 2010

LMB TITLE SERIES GAME TWO SUSPENDED BY RAIN

With the Saltillo Saraperos holding a 2-1 lead over Puebla after four innings Wednesday night, Game Two was suspended by home plate umpire Jose Vargas after rain made further play at Puebla’s Estadio Hermanos Serdan impossible. The game will be resumed Thursday.
Saltillo starting pitcher Hector Daniel Rodriguez, a leading candidate for playoff MVP with four postseason wins and a 0.82 ERA, was reasonably effective through his four innings on the mound, limiting the Pericos to a single run on four hits and two walks. Puebla’s Guadalupe Perez (pictured), who has struggled at times with a 5.06 ERA, pitched well enough to keep the Pericos in the ballgame by letting in a pair of runs on four hits and three bases on balls. Both pitchers had three strikeouts.

The Saraperos scored both their runs in the top of the second with Noe Munoz coming home from second with the game’s first run on a Jesus Cota single. With the bases loaded two batters later, Christian Presichi made it two Saltillo counters in the frame by scoring from third on a sacrifice double play fly out by Carlos Eduardo Gonzalez. Puebla pushed their lone run across the plate in the bottom of the third when Cesar Tapia scored on Ricardo Serrano’s two-out single to right. The contest was called after Rodriguez induced Miguel Torrero to fly out to Presichi in right to end the fourth.

The game will resume Thursday at 1PM local time in the top of the fifth with Saltillo’s Jonathan Aceves at the plate against the Pericos. The Saraperos lead the Bicentennial Series, 1 game to 0.
